The objective of this research is to analyze the principles, forms, and methods for strengthening assertive communication in community conflict mediation processes, with the aim of overcoming sociocultural barriers and promoting peaceful coexistence. A qualitative, documentary, and descriptive study was conducted, based on a review of specialized literature and an analysis of the Mexican and international legal framework on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. A deductive approach was used, allowing for the identification of relevant conceptual and regulatory elements. The results highlight five key elements for effective assertive communication in community mediation: self-awareness, active listening, clarity and confidence, setting boundaries and priorities, and managing dialogue. Additionally, the principles and fundamental characteristics of mediation recognized in the General Law on Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms and specialized doctrine were systematized. It is concluded that integrating assertive communication skills into community mediation processes strengthens a culture of peace, supports sustainable agreements, and fosters social cohesion. Therefore, it is recommended to provide ongoing training for mediators in communication competencies and to promote public policies that encourage their implementation in community contexts.
